Japan and China’s Isolation Policy
Students have been feeling as though we did not cover Japan in great detail, this Prezi might help – and so will these videos linked here; please choose three to watch (they are not very long). I would like everyone to comment on the Prezi AND the Videos relating to Japan specifically, by Monday latest. Links for Japanese Video Lessons
Also for those of you taking the exam here is a great site for overall revision and reminding you of all the evidence you can put into your essays!!

I found it interesting that Zheng He was a Muslim Chinese, Eunech and slave. I also found it interesting how he had been castrated from an early age.

I found it interesting how quickly and efficiently the Chinese and the Japanese eliminated foreign trade. Isolating such a large country like China seems slightly impossible, but they managed.

I found it interesting that unlike the Knights, the Samurai had women warriors. Also the fact that they not only had to learn how to fight but also had to learn art and how to paint and use woodblock printing.

I found it interesting that although firearms were introduced by European merchants in the 16th and 17th century the Japanese managed to avoid them till the 19th century. Especially that they were first introduced into Japan and became popular before the Tokugawa Shogunate almost completely managed to eradicate their influence.

I found it very interesting the fact that both the Japanese and Chinese had similar reasons for adopting isolationism. The two Empires seemed to have a strong culture that they wanted to make sure they keep their culture safe from the influence of other nations.
